Batch:

  1. NEW: Added Known Keep Agent processing before and after a batch runs. Use it to call web services or run BAT, CMD, and EXE files with parameters. Actions are configured in the batch-specific INI file. Manual runs prompt for confirmation before processing; scheduled runs use the configured actions automatically. For post processing, you can pass Report Runner Batch exit codes (return codes) to decide what to do in your post processing.
  2. NEW: Known Keep Agent processing can convert CSV report output to JSON for a web call or another program. Added examples to the batch INI editor’s right-click menu for web calls, JSON requests, CSV conversion, and running programs.
  3. NEW: Added jnLastFileName, jnLastCSVFileName, jnLastPDFFileName, and jnLastTXTFileName variables (to be used with new Known Keep Agent). These allow processing to reference the last matching file recorded in the batch’s output list.
  4. NEW: Added Deep Dive Analysis under Help, Debugging. This checks your report, subreports, database connection settings, installed drivers, and related configuration to help troubleshoot connection problems. Results are written to the log file for you and Support to review. Database credentials are optional and enable additional login tests.
  5. NEW: Added an optional alternate database Crystal login method. This provides another way to apply connection settings while preserving the report’s existing provider settings. It can be enabled globally or for an individual batch.
  6. NEW: Added support for gMSA accounts in the Scheduler. With gMSA, Windows manages the password, so you do not enter a password in Report Runner. The account must already be configured and authorized for use on the computer running the batch. If you need to mass change schedules to use gMSA account, use the add-on Monitor and Debugger application which allows for mass updating scheduling credentials.
  7. NEW: Added a Scheduler option to synchronize stored account IDs with Windows Task Scheduler. This is useful if an account was changed directly in Windows or the Monitor and Debugger, and Report Runner still shows the old account.
  8. NEW: Added a Scheduler option to rebuild its data from existing Report Runner tasks in Windows Task Scheduler. A dated backup is created first. Scheduler-only information, such as notes and disabled schedules that have no Windows task, cannot be recovered from Windows. This should only be used when you have no other options or your Scheduler data has become corrupted.
  9. NEW: Added an emergency email alert when an Event Server SQL rule’s pre-run query succeeds but the batch fails. The alert identifies the rule and batch and explains that the final completion query did not run. This uses your configured emergency notification email address. Emergency alerts in Report Runner Batch are not configurable (other than your setting of an email address).
  10. Update: Improved performance when preparing and displaying parameter bursts containing very large lists of values.
  11. Update: Improved Scheduler validation and messages for invalid dates, times, monthly days, and repeat settings. Records with invalid stored values can be opened so those values can be corrected.
  12. Update: Improved Scheduler file saving and recovery. New data is validated before replacing the existing file, and a valid temporary recovery copy can be restored automatically when needed. Deleting the final schedule also leaves the Scheduler file usable.
  13. Update: Improved Scheduler cleanup of missing XML files (a manual process you can run) now assumes drive is offline temporarily if a root folder of an XML file is inaccessible (instead of thinking it no longer exists)
  14. Update: Improved Scheduler calendar and next-run lookup performance, especially for schedules with frequent repeats.
  15. Update: Improved crash reporting with additional diagnostic information, better screenshot capture, and a Crash ID connecting the log, screenshot, and HelpDesk ticket. A ticket can be submitted with just the crash log when a screenshot is unavailable.
  16. Update: Improved emergency email notifications. Report Runner now retries your mail settings once. If both attempts fail, it tries the internal Report Runner mail account and includes a note explaining why that account was used. This helps ensure you are notified in an emergency.
  17. Update: Improved Global Monitoring table setup and improved recovery if table creation or dashboard-table recreation fails.
  18. Update: Improved locking and cleanup when multiple users or processes access shared settings, Scheduler data, and log information.
  19. Update: Improved old log and temporary-file cleanup performance. Added Crystal Reports connection-manager cache files to cleanup process.
  20. Update: The Licensing Manager now displays the installed version and latest supported version.
  21. Update: Added clearer status messages during pre-batch and post-batch SQL or Agent processing. The final batch result is displayed again after post-batch processing finishes.
  22. Bug Fix: Fixed some Scheduler date and time handling on computers using different regional settings.
  23. Bug Fix: Improved handling of failed Windows Task Scheduler updates and deletions. Existing tasks are retained if their replacement cannot be registered, and Report Runner retains the schedule record if Windows cannot delete its task. Messages explain which changes were saved.
  24. Bug Fix: Corrected a batch-specific INI setting of SmartHTMLTitleRow so the option inserted by the INI editor controls the title row as expected. The older SmartHTMLColumnTitleRow setting is still recognized for backward, non-breaking compatibility.
  25. Bug Fix: Fixed errors when deleting Global Parameters or Event Server rules leaves an empty displayed list. Event Server rule lists also correctly enforce the requirement to retain at least one rule.
  26. Bug Fix: Fixed crashes involving an empty status-bar message and application shutdown cleanup.
  27. Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where a timed pause could loop indefinitely after the computer had been running for an extended period.
  28. Bug Fix: Corrected automatic HelpDesk ticket confirmation after a crash. If the ticket cannot be sent, Report Runner now explains the failure, retains the crash files, and allows you to try again.
  29. Bug Fix: Corrected Global Monitoring database writes to preserve apostrophes and international characters in recorded names and messages.
  30. Bug Fix: Fixed a possible hang when Global Monitoring could not remove a completed session. Failed dashboard refreshes now retain the previous display and pause SMS alerts until a complete refresh succeeds.

Viewer:

  1. NEW: Added Favorites Viewer mode. Organize reports into up to 100 named categories pointing to local or network folders. Each category displays the RPT and RPTR files in its configured folder, with the existing search and refresh options. Categories are configured in JNRRV.INI.
  2. NEW: Added Deep Dive Analysis under Help, Debugging. This checks your report, subreports, database connection settings, installed drivers, and related configuration to help troubleshoot connection problems. Results are written to the log file for you and Support to review. Database credentials are optional and enable additional login tests.
  3. NEW: Added an optional alternate database Crystal login method. This provides another way to apply connection settings while preserving the report’s existing provider settings. It is enabled globally in the JNRRV.INI file. When enabled, the keyword "Alt" will will shown on Viewer button.
  4. NEW: Added AlwaysHideViewerToolBar and AlwaysHideViewerStatusBar settings to give reports more screen space. Set either option to 1 to keep that bar hidden. Using both also hides the bottom panel.
  5. Update: Improved crash reporting with additional diagnostic information, better screenshot capture, and a Crash ID connecting the log, screenshot, and HelpDesk ticket. A ticket can be submitted with just the crash log when a screenshot is unavailable.
  6. Update: Improved emergency email notifications. Report Runner now retries your mail settings twice. If both attempts fail, it uses an internal Report Runner mail account and includes a note explaining why that account was used.
  7. Update: Corrected Global Monitoring table setup and improved recovery if table creation or dashboard-table recreation fails.
  8. Update: Improved locking and cleanup for shared settings, Enterprise administration, and password updates.
  9. Update: Improved old log and temporary-file cleanup performance. Temporary-file cleanup now includes Crystal Reports connection-manager cache files.
  10. Update: The Licensing Manager now displays the installed version using the familiar Report Runner release number.
  11. Update: A new parameter-window finder/helper ships called Known Keep Parameter Window Utility. It replaces the previous jnUtilities executable. By default, it runs in a hidden mode, but it can also be run manually in a visible mode that floats in the lower right-hand corner of screen.
  12. Bug Fix: Corrected saved User ID and Database suggestions in Advanced Data Connections. Database names were being added to the User ID suggestion list.
  13. Bug Fix: Corrected a licensing bug related to comparing two unrelated hardward properties.
  14. Bug Fix: Fixed errors when deleting Global Parameters, Enterprise reports, or Enterprise groups/users leaves an empty displayed list. Enterprise administration also correctly enforces its last-record requirements.
  15. Bug Fix: Fixed crashes involving an empty status-bar message and application shutdown cleanup.
  16. Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where a timed pause could loop indefinitely after the computer had been running for an extended period.
  17. Bug Fix: Corrected automatic HelpDesk ticket confirmation after a crash. If the ticket cannot be sent, Report Runner now explains the failure, retains the crash files, and allows you to try again.
  18. Bug Fix: Corrected Global Monitoring database writes to preserve apostrophes and international characters in recorded names and messages.
  19. Bug Fix: Fixed a possible hang when Global Monitoring could not remove a completed session. Failed dashboard refreshes now retain the previous display and pause SMS alerts until a complete refresh succeeds.

Documentor:

  1. Update: Documentor now opens connection settings after a database connection or list-loading failure. Saving the settings retries the report list. Cancelling during startup exits Documentor; cancelling during a later refresh retains the previous list.
  2. Update: Improved database error messages to identify the affected report and operation and explain when previous documentation was left unchanged.
  3. Bug Fix: Existing report documentation is now retained if refreshing a report or one of its subreports fails. Replacement documentation is saved together only after processing succeeds.
  4. Bug Fix: Corrected documentation of report paths and metadata containing apostrophes.
  5. Bug Fix: Corrected database deletion failures that could repeat indefinitely or be reported as successful.
  6. Bug Fix: Corrected database table creation, including installations using a non-default SQL Server schema. Failed setup no longer leaves a partially created set of tables.
  7. Bug Fix: Fixed crashes involving an empty status-bar message and application shutdown cleanup.

If you use Report Runner Event Server, be sure and download the latest update for it, too (you can just update your executables).

And if you use the Monitor and Debugger application, it has lots of improvements, too. Highly recommended (you can install/update it when you update Report Runner Batch, Viewer, and/or Documentor).
