Issue Summary:
Some customers are experiencing an intermittent issue where an activated Report Runner Batch license on a machine becomes "deactivated", leading to a message stating "Report Runner Viewer/Report Runner Batch is not activated on this machine".
Steps to Resolve (Re-Activate):
- Go into the Licensing Manager
- Display the Activated Machines
- Deactivate the Application(s) On Non-Working Machine
- Re-Activate Application(s)
Steps to Resolve/Analyze:
- Identify Key File Replacement or Modification: The issue likely stems from the
reportrunner.key
file being replaced or modified, potentially due to system restoration or reimaging.
- Check Licensed Machines: The machine will still show to be activated. If we look at the activation/deactivation logs on our end, the machine remains activated on the licensing server. Also, additional machine properties that we track remain consistent, ruling out deactivation on the server end.
- Conduct an Experiment (this indicates that changes are only occurring on your machine, not the licensing server):
- Step 1: After re-activating the license, copy the
reportrunner.key
file to a secure location or email it for backup.
- Step 2: When deactivation occurs again, exit Report Runner and replace the current
reportrunner.key
file with the backed-up version.
- Step 3: Restart Report Runner and observe if it shows as activated. This indicates
- Monitor File Directory: Place a test file (e.g.,
test.txt
) in the same directory to check for any changes or deletions between activations.

Additional Information:
The reportrunner.key
file may undergo changes by the application, but these do not affect the activation status (so don't compare a previous file, see it's changed, and think that's the issue).
