Setting your license is super simple. The hardest part for most people is copying the long activation key... after that... copy, paste, apply. Easy!

When you order a new license or renew a license, you will receive an email from us. There will either be a text file (.TXT) or license.key file (.KEY) attached to the email. Here are the three methods to set, apply, or update your license or licensing:

  1. If you have a long license key or a text file, use Method #1.
  2. If you have the license.key file, use Method #2.
  3. If you have a long license key and you can't get into the Licensing Manager, use Method #3.

---

Method #1 - Here are the quick steps:

  1. Copy the license key text from your licensing email. If the key is not displayed in the email, double-click on the text file to open it. Copy the key to your clipboard (Edit, Select All, Edit, Copy).
  2. Start Report Runner Batch or Report Runner Viewer.
  3. Click on About/Licensing, Licensing Manager.
  4. Click on Edit/Change License.
  5. Select and Delete the current key shown in Licensing Manager.
  6. Paste in the copied key from your clipboard (Ctrl-V).
  7. Activate License.

Method #2 - You have a license.key file attached to your licensing email.

  1. Download or copy the license.key file from your email. Note, you do NOT need to open or edit this file.
  2. Exit Report Runner and Go to your Jeff-Net data folder. If you don't know how to find your Jeff-Net data folder, then click here. If your software is up-to-date, you can also go to Help, Debugging, and select the last option Help! - Show Me Jeff-Net Data Folder.
  3. In your Jeff-Net data folder, you'll see a file called license.key. Replace that license.key file with the new one from your licensing email.
  4. In your Jeff-Net data folder, if you see a file called activated.key, DELETE it. This forces the license.key to be processed.
  5. Restart Report Runner.

Method #3 - You can't get into the Licensing Manager, because it states you have a special license (like the picture below):

  1. Exit Report Runner and Go to your Jeff-Net data folder. If you don't know how to find your Jeff-Net data folder, then click here. If your software is up-to-date, you can also go to Help, Debugging, and select the last option Help! - Show Me Jeff-Net Data Folder.
  2. In your Jeff-Net data folder, you'll see a file called license.key. Edit the license.key file with Notepad and replace the key there with the one you previously copied. Save the license.key file.
  3. In your Jeff-Net data folder, if you see a file called activated.key, DELETE it. This forces the license.key to be processed.
  4. Restart Report Runner.

Note: If you have a license.key file, you can also simply replace the license.key file in this folder (as explained in Method #2 above).

Problems Activating?

If you have any problems activating your license, please review the following...

1. Make sure your software is up to date.

You must be on 2030 or later for your licensing to activate properly. If you are not on at least 2030, please update your software. It only takes a moment to download and run the updater.

2. You can test your connection to our licensing server using the following URL:

https://licensing.reportrunner.com/test.asmx/TestService?settingsFilePath=

This is an example of the type of web call Report Runner makes from your machine to our web server and the response it receives (it sends an HTTP request to set your license and then receives and processes a response from the server). Many companies have these types of web calls and responses BLOCKED (you may see "unauthorized" or "closed" error messages). You must temporarily allow our licensing server to "talk" with your machine to set your license (just one time).

Note, this test simply shows you our licensing server is active and responding in your browser. It does NOT mean that something isn't still keeping your machine from contacting our server from within our application.

For an example of the responses our licensing server might return, see here:

https://licensing.reportrunner.com/test.asmx?op=TestService

If you need to unblock a specific IP address, the licensing server's static IP address is 3.226.176.29 52.45.156.188 (changed as of September 2023) and it is located at Amazon Web Services in Virginia.

3. Temporarily Disable Anti-Virus/Security Software and/or Firewalls:

If you use anti-virus software like Symantec Endpoint Security or Kaspersky Endpoint Security or other firewalls, please consider temporarily disabling it or create an exception for our licensing server. Where there are errors activating a valid key with our licensing server, it's because this type of security is either blocking the call altogether or modifying the call so the response is invalid.

Our software only has to connect to the licensing server ONCE. Whatever security you have active can be re-enabled after the license is activated.
